                               for
                     Documentation Directory

  General Overview of Documentation
  ---------------------------------

Two sets of documentation accompany the NTv2: the User's Guide
  and the Developer's Guide.

The User's Guide provides guidance in the use of programs
INTGRID, INTTAB, and READDA. It also outlines how these three
programs refer to the grid shift file, the other major
  component of the NTv2.

Details of the grid shift file structure and access procedures
are contained in the Developer's Guide. Together with the
source code for the programs and a special NOFRILLS version of
INTGRID, it forms a Developer's Kit to assist users who wish
to modify the NTv2 for their own use under the End User's
  Agreement.

The Developer's Kit also provides a basis for third party
developers who wish to incorporate the NTv2 as a feature of
their product for commercial distribution. For this type of
development, a Developer's License Agreement must be entered
into with the Geodetic Survey Division of Geomatics Canada
(see Item 8 of the End User's Agreement which accompanies this
  product).

  Documentation Formats
  ---------------------

Each guide is supplied in both English and French, and in a
  variety of formats.

The original document is composed in Microsoft Word 6.0, and
is identified by a .doc extension. To assist users who do not
have access to the MS Word application, a freeware viewer from
Microsoft called WordView is included in the Viewers
directory. WordView is a Windows application that allows the
document to be viewed and printed exactly the same as the
original application, but no editing can be performed.

A WordPerfect version is also included, and is identified by a
.wpd extension. This is a WordPerfect 5.1 for DOS conversion
  from the MS Word original.

For users with other word processors that cannot read either
MS Word or WordPerfect formats directly, a Rich Text Format
(RTF) version is included. It is identified by a .rtf
extension, and can be imported with formatting intact by most
  word processors.

For viewing by a text editor or file viewer, an ASCII text
file is included, identified by a .asc extension. It has been
formatted with line breaks and leading spaces to maintain the
same general appearance as the original word processing
  document.

The final format supplied is PostScript, identified by a .ps
extension. It is the MS Word print file, and can be spooled to
any PostScript printer to produce hard copy of the original
without the need for a word processor. The spooler supplied
with the user's printer is required, because simply printing
the PS file will result in a list of printer instruction text
  - not the document.

  Filenames and Directories
  -------------------------

There is a directory for each of the User's Guide and the
Developer's Guide, and two sub-directories in each for the
English and French versions. Each of the four sub-directories
contains one document in the five formats described above.

The directory structure appears as follows:

     \documntn \usrguide \english usrguide.asc
                                                  usrguide.doc
                                                  usrguide.ps
                                                  usrguide.rtf
                                                  usrguide.wp
