Assessment Services - Mandate

The primary function of Assessment Services is to classify and value all real property in New Brunswick at its real and true value on an annual basis, and to ensure equity in the assessment base. This information is submitted to the Province. The Province then provides it to each municipality and local service district for their use in determining the tax rate during their annual budget process.

Assessment Services is also responsible for administering several Tax Benefit Programs available on application to homeowners and charitable/not-for-profit organizations who meet the legislated requirements.
