    Personal ID's
  • Available to residents of New Brunswick for use as identification when they do not hold a valid drivers license
  • No age restriction
  • Valid for 4 years
  • Client must provide 2 pieces of ID to confirm their identity and Date of Birth
  • One ID must be a Primary; Birth Certificate,Existing NB ID Card,Any Canadian province or territory or US driver's license that has a photo,Canadian Citizenship Identification, Canadian Identity Card, Passport (may be expired)
  • The other piece of ID can be a Secondary; Armed Forces military identification, Naturalization certificate, foreign drivers license, police identification (Canada or US), Foreign Affairs or Consular Identification, New Brunswick Medicare card, NB Driver's License, Social Insurance Card, Baptismal Certificate.
  • You may use two pieces of Primary ID
  • Unacceptable Identification, Liquor Control Photo ID Cards, Library Cards, Fishing or Hunting Licences, Credit Cards
  • Any applicant who is under the age of 16 must be accompanied by
    • their parent or
    • their custodial parent in cases of separation or divorce, or
    • legal guardian at the time of submitting the application.
  • It is not acceptable to have another adult (grandparent, baby sitter, neighbor, etc.) "vouch" for the applicant. The identity of the parent or guardian must be verified as per the identification standards and copies of the documents used to verify the applicant and the parent or guardian must be maintained.
    Driver's License
  • Effective January 1, 2005 a photo ID is mandatory on all new driver's licenses
  • Exceptions; where the face is covered or obscured by bandages or where the driver is temporarily absent from the Province (and the license is being renewed by a authorized person)
  • Cost is $20 per year, same as for replacement
  • No charge for a change of address
