Birth Registration

Every child born in New Brunswick must be registered with the New Brunswick Vital Statistics Branch within 14 days of the birth. The registration establishes a permanent legal record of the birth event.  You must register the birth before you can order a birth certificate.

There is no cost to register.

If you give birth in the hospital…

The New Brunswick Vital Statistics Branch is offering a new bundled birth service in all birthing hospitals across the province. If you do not give birth in the hospital…

If you do not give birth in one of the birthing hospitals, you must still register your baby’s birth with the New Brunswick Vital Statistics Branch.  If your child is one year of age or younger you may still take advantage of the bundled birth service.  Please contact the New Brunswick Vital Statistics Branch at (506) 453-2385 for more information.

  • Evidence of the birth will have to be produced; and
  • There will be a fee for the delayed filing
